PAS slams Aussie MPs intervention in Anwar’s case
KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS criticised the interference by Australian Members of Parliament (MPs) in the sodomy trial of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Its president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, said as a partner in the opposition coalition, he wanted the matter to be resolved according to the country's judicial system without influence from foreign elements.
"In terms of foreign intervention, as a Malaysian national, I want our country to remain a sovereign nation and there is no necessity for foreign intervention, especially from the Western world...non-Muslim countries," he said Friday.
He said this when met by reporters after opening the gathering of Kuala Terengganu Muslim Youths 2010 at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Ibai, near here.
Abdul Hadi claimed that there was intervention because of perceived weaknesses in the country's judicial system and this had to be addressed immediately so that the judiciary would command the respect of everyone
